Trust in the Shooting Box
Like yourselves, I too have climbed that long hill to improvement, consistency and higher clay target (sporting clays, skeet, trap) scores. While that journey is one I’d gladly do again for the sweet victories and accomplishments, it’s sure had its rough moments as well. No doubt, you can relate to both. Here are 2 very important considerations that revealed themselves to me many years ago during my journey, which, thankfully, is still ongoing.
First, the shooting/scoring skills we seek and aspire to have to be built. While some do progress faster than others, that sometimes-obstinate learning curve applies to everyone, no exceptions. This suggests (requires - depending on your goals?) our relentless and correct repetition of the basics, flat after flat, endlessly reinforcing the fundamentals to build a swing that is consistent and, in all ways, mucho dependable. Using target singles, there is no expiration date on these repetition exercises. Building, maintaining and elevating our good form is, and always will be, a work in progress. It is THE first goal, THE skill set, the platform upon which the other skill sets will either stand or fall.
Regardless of age or gender, engaging this focused and specific training with patience, dedication, and tenacity, will in time yield increasingly higher levels of skill in the shooting box…more X’s…fewer O’s.
This is important to remember!
Sporting Clays, Skeet, Trap Scoring Skills - Part II will be posted on Wednesday, March 23, 2017.
